| Alvenius recently signed contracts for some important Mining and Snowmaking projects. 5 projects with a total of more than 30.000 m of pipes in different dimensions. |

Alvenius’ 460 Deg C, ‘Hot Dip’ galvanizing process bonds 0.1mm of zinc to the entire surface of the steel to form an alloy, which, under normal atmospheric conditions, can be expected to provide good service for over 50 years.
A few years ago, as part of their on-going product development, Alvenius expanded their product range with the introduction of TP Pipes - a unique, superior, lightweight thermoplastic-coated steel piping system that considerably reduces capital investment and installation costs.
Combining the strength of steel with the superior corrosion –resistant properties of thermo-plastic, since its introduction, TP-Pipes is, increasingly, being regarded as an attractive and economical alternative in applications where stainless steel was previously considered the only option.
Much interest has come from industries such as chemical engineering, pulp and paper, hydro-power, irrigation, off-shore marine, water treatment and mining, where TP-Pipes’ capabilities have already been endurance-proven in highly corrosive processes such as chemical dosing and acid mineral leaching.
The durability of TP-Pipes has also drawn the attention of safety experts responsible for installing reliable long-life fire-prevention systems in public buildings and underground structures.
Providing for an event that we hope will never happen, TP Pipes’ ability to contain puddled water for decades without corroding and still promptly deliver water to the hydrants and sprinklers in an emergency, make the product extremely attractive for permanent piping systems. A further, significant, advantage is TP-Pipe’s di-electric properties which make it ideal for many hazardous locations.
Quality control is the key to TP-Pipes long serviceability. To ensure 100% adhesion and eliminate the risk of scaling or cracking, every section of pipe, every joint and every coupling is thoroughly sand-blasted and preheated before being fully encapsulated in a 500-700 micron thermoplastic coating.
Available in stock lengths and diameters from 89mm to 610mm and manufactured to withstand pressures up to 70 bar, and working temperatures ranging from -40 to +65 deg. C., TP-Pipes demonstrate excellent resistance to chemicals, acids and alkalis and can withstand weather extremes and UV penetration. In fire mains installations, TP-Pipes are expected to be good for at least seventy-five years.
Certified by Lloyds to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, TP-Pipes complies with most internationally recognised standards and is pre-qualified for installation in all virtually all British tunnel projects.
As well as test certificates for fire-resistance, flame spread, fumes, toxicity, accelerated weather, salt spray, etc.,TP-Pipes have gained certification under the stringent, recently enforceable EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
(According to PED which includes EN13445, pressure equipment above 0,5 bar specified pressure or volume thresholds must: be safe and meet essential design, manufacturing and testing safety requirements.)
Alvenius TP Pipes is also far more economical to own and install. Capital investment is some 30% less than stainless steel. Using Alvenius’ quick-couplings, unskilled labour can assemble and maintain your system far more quickly than time-consuming and expensive welded. Furthermore, easy to transport and store, TP Pipes are easy to exchange, reconfigure or, where required, completely relocate to a new project.
TP Pipes are already replacing traditional piped delivery methods for sprinkler systems in public transit points.
The pipes and fittings are joined together using quick couplings or flanges which eliminates expensive and time consuming welding. Pressures up to 70 bar (1000 psi). Diameter range 89 mm-610 mm (3"-24"). The products have extremely good adhesion so there is no risk of scaling or cracking. Elongation at break is 800 %. Working temperature continuous in air +65 deg. C / 150 deg. F. Fire tests and fire fume certificates available.

The TP pipes are beeing used in applications such as permanent fire mains, dewatering, and for media with acid water, high content of chloride or salt. The products are also superb for high pressure applications. The TP pipes have superior resistance against corrosion and have a signific-antly longer service life than for example piping in stainless steel 316L.
Alvenius has delivered to Stockholm Transit Authority TP pipes to supply water to the fire hydrants protecting 35 underground stations on the Stockholm Metro. Specified by Tyrens, a leading Swedish Consultant, the Authority was impressed, not only by the capital savings but also by the simple coupling system which made assembly five times quicker compared with welding. The customer also eliminated the fire risk of welding.

The Arlanda Link Consortium has installed TP pipes for fire fighting throughout the high-speed rail link from Stockholm City to Arlanda International Airport. The scheme includes three underground stations atArlanda and 10 km (6 miles) of tunnels. The piping project required a pressure rating of 25 bar (360 psi) and to be electrically isolated and have a suberb long term corrosion protection. The TP pipes fullfilled that specification. TP pipes in dimensions from 102 mm to 254 mm were delivered.

Three parallel tunnels were built between Couquelles in France and Cheriton in England. Alvenius offered hot dip galvanized pipes for water, compressed air and dewatering when invited to tender for this huge project. The combination of quality, low weight, product range, availability and price resulted in more than 3 years cooperation between the channel tunnel consortium and Alvenius. Over 65 km ( 39 miles ) of pipes and accessories were delivered to the project.
